Beyond the Classroom

Enrichment Programs and Extracurricular Activities

Funshine offers many varied enrichment programs in addition to excellent classroom academic, social, and emotional experiences. The enrichment programs begin in our Toddler program and encourage children to learn and explore through a variety of activities. Our enrichment programs are included in the cost of tuition.

Our extracurricular activities, Soccer Shots, Crouching Tigers, Allie Cats Gymnastics offer children a fun way to build new skills and develop new interests beyond what is taught in the classroom.

Enrichment Programs

  • Music

Ms. Anna engages children in interactive and joyful music class at Funshine each Tuesday morning. Our music program provides guitar-led, active, participatory musical experiences that help establish a foundation of expressive, receptive and creative music skills. Children perform the songs that they learn throughout the year in a Christmas musical, Spring musical, and graduation program!

  • Sign Language and Spanish

Sign Language and Spanish begin in our infant classroom, children progress toward a stronger understanding through daily planned activities in each classroom. Evidence suggests that learning how to sign can enhance young children’s brain function, boost their self-esteem, and give them a concrete and appropriate way to express emotions and enhances literacy skills.

  • Physical Fitness

Physical activity is a primary focus at Funshine. Our bright indoor gym allows children to remain active during inclement weather and structured and unstructured activity is incorporated throughout the day. Preschool children can be found on our large outdoor playground, or in the gym playing games like dodgeball, parachute, or learning to jump rope for 120 minutes each day! Our Toddler and Wee Care program each have their own playground and enjoy at least 90 minutes of participatory, age-appropriate activities such as tumbling, parachute games, or chasing bubbles!

  • Indy Parks and Recreation

The Indy Parks environmental education staff comes monthly to provide a variety of experiences and educational tools that help to build a curiosity of nature and the opportunity to grow. The Naturalist at IndyParks bring a variety of resources to help the children develop a love of nature and a desire to preserve our natural resources.

  • Bookmobile

The love of reading and early literacy skills are developed at Funshine through several experiences. The children are able to pick out their own books to read each Wednesday on the bookmobile.

  • School Garden

Children at Funshine are able to participate in hands on gardening activities that help them to develop a love of nature, appreciation for wildlife and learn about healthy eating! Our school garden is planted and cared for throughout the growing season with help from the children. We enjoy eating our own vegetables throughout the summer and fall.

  • And Many More!

Funshine offers many other enrichment activities throughout the year. Children attend field trips, participate in an annual trike-a-thon, enjoy weekly splash days in the summer, enjoy animal shows, holiday shows, and visits from the fire department throughout the year. We keep families updated about the fun and educational activities that are happening at Funshine!

Extracurricular Activities

  • Soccer Shots

Soccer Shots offers a high-energy program introducing children to fundamental soccer principles, such as using your feet, dribbling and the basic rules of the game. Through fun games, songs and positive reinforcement, children begin to experience the joy of playing soccer and being active. Soccer Shots offers a class for ages 2, a class for age 3 and a class for ages 4-5 at Funshine on Thursday afternoons.

  • Crouching Tigers
